Report arrives several days after news of New newspaper The York Times that last year, Mr. Rosenstein had suggested secretly recording President Donald Trump and raising the idea of using the 25th Amendment to dismiss the president as unable to govern.
Mr. Rosenstein denied the newspaper's announcement last week.
Today, White House Press Secretary Sarah Saunders made this statement Monday: “at Deputy Prosecutor General Rod Rosenstein's request, he and President Trump have had a broad conversation to discuss recent reports. Because the president is at the UN General Assembly and has numerous meetings with leaders from around the world, they will meet Thursday when the president returns to Washington. ”
Some reports in the American media said Mr. Rosenstein had discussed the resignation, while, according to others, he refuses to leave unless fired.
After Friday's announcement, Mr. Rosenstein said: “Leym of the New York Times is incorrect and incorrect in facts. I don't want to comment more on an article based on anonymous sources that are partial to the Justice Department and advance their personal agenda. Let me be clear: Based on personal relations with the President, there is no basis for referring to the 25th Amendment”.
The 25th amendment defines the process by which the vice president and most of the cabinet dismiss the president from office if he or she is unable to carry out official duties.
Mr. Rosenstein later made a second statement denying the charges in even stronger terms: “I've never requested or authorized the presidential registration and any suggestion that I've ever tried to remove the president is absolutely false”.
A source who was in the room when Mr. Rosenstein made the comment on the president's registration, said in a statement to the Voice of America that the comments were made in the form of a joke. The source said that “was never discussed on any intention to record any conversation with President”.
Deputy Director General monitors the Special Prosecutor's investigation into Russia's intervention in the 2016 elections. If he gets fired or resigns, this would have an impact on the question of who would oversee the investigation for Russia. / VOA/
