The Transatlantic Election Integrity Commission, whose members include politicians as ex-Sv. American President Joe Biden and ex-Sv. British Prime Minister Nick Clegg; announced that attempts to prevent voters are intended to undermine the referendum, which requires a 50% turnout to be valid.
In the referendum, citizens will be required to vote for the agreement with Greece on changing the name of the state in Northern Macedonia.
Adoption of the agreement would pave the way for membership in NATO and the European Union for Macedonia.
“There are co-ordinated efforts to undermine Macedonians' democratic rights and delegate referendum vote”, the Transatlantic Election Integrity Commission said through a statement.
“Macedonians must decide for themselves what future they want for their country”, the Commission said, adding that it is not yet able to find the origin of the referendum intervention campaign.
