A former US administration official, from President Obama's time, has supported the exchange of territories negotiating between the presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, even though he has acknowledged that such a solution would lead to “ethnic cleansing” in Kosovo and the Presevo Valley.
In an opinion published in the New York Times”, Charles A. Kupchan, former senior official at the US president's Council for National Security in 2014-2017, has written that the United States of America and the European Union must support Serbia's Aleksandar Vuciqi and Hashim Thaci's Kosovo proposal for exchange of territories, Today the Koha Ditore conveys.
The script acknowledges that the Vuciq-Thaci plan as a <x0 mic” which, even though “morally offensive” The US and the EU “must back”.
Serbia's “President Aleksandar Vuciq and Kosovo President Hashim Thaci appear to be working on a proposal to be included in exchange for land that could bring the heated conflict towards the end. Northern Kosovo, populated mainly by ethnic Serbs and bordering Serbia, would pass through Serbia. In exchange, a still undefined piece of the Presevo Valley in Serbia -- which is populated by Albanian majority and borders on Kosovo -- would become part of Kosovo”, writes Kupchan, acknowledging that such a plan also means <x2) overlaps of populations” at large.
