Several leading German politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, rejected a call for a dinner in honour of Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan, who is making an official visit to Germany this week.

The Chancellor's presence at banquets organised by the president is not rule,” confirmed the German president's cabinet, suggesting that Merkel will not attend dinner.
The report states that Merkel “only occasionally takes part in ceremonies at the presidential residence and was last during Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Berlin in 2015.
