Matoshi: Old Cars at the Harm of Citizens

Environment and Spatial Planning Minister Fatmir Matosi has declared that changing the auto law allowing the importation of cars older than ten years should not happen, since it would be at the expense of Kosovo citizens.

The PDK deputy's initiative, Mergim Lushtaku, for the change and completion of the Automotive Law, namely change of Article 44, so that not to be the criterion of vehicle registration age, has gone to first reading, but against changing the law is also emerging to be the front-runner of Environment and Space Planning Minister Fatmir Matosi.

Our daily engagement is that this law remains in force. We don't want old cars imported to Kosovo because it is estimated that cars enter among the main air pollutants. We're entering the winter season now, and we've got the strength for air. The air, the environment, we have put the environment to a state priority, so a decision proposed by whoever removes age as the criterion for running vehicles will not be good, and will be at the expense of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo”, he said.

For administrative instruction where punishment is provided for those who lay waste in public places, Matosi said he was not the earliest with legislative agenda but who have now submitted the request to Government in order to enter the agenda.

He said that during the next week the instruction will be ready for signing.

This administrative directive has not been pre-represented with legislative agenda and we have already submitted a request to the Government to have it on the legislative agenda, we will get the approval immediately. During the week we enter, everything will be ready, instruction will be ready for signature. After that seven days we will use it to promote it and after seven days the law will be in force and I believe it will be implemented by both municipalities and by the ministry and by all of”, he said.

As for the establishment of Environmental Police, Matoshi said he would be part of the Kosovo Police by the end of this year.

He also cited the meeting he had with Minister of Affairs, Internal Affairs Baytush Gashi on the issue.

“At this meeting we've received the approval of Minister Gashi that within the Kosovo Police to have Environmental Police units, and for that purpose we've formulated groups, for example at the Ministry of Environment is a group of the seven people working, at the same time the Ministry of Internal Affairs founded its group, and now the two groups will work together to find the modalities to adapt to the tasks, legislative side and all the necessary actions so that by the end of this year we can have the Environment Police<1> he said.
