The amount of five euros Albania's government will take to Kosovars who use the Nation Street for one direction, starting September 17th, is being strongly rejected and is considered unaffordable for the pocket of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. The Kosovo Infrastructure Ministry suggests Albanian counterparts have not even returned to their address.
In the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Kosovo, they say that a letter has been addressed to Albanian state authorities since the beginning of the decision on its implementation has been rejected.
“We have been monitoring the situation from the time we made the decision to maintain the right to Kosovo citizens who are the most frequent visitors to the Albanian state, communially we have also issued letters towards the institutions of Albania, but without wanting it to emerge as a tendency to intervene in the internal affairs of the well-known institutions of the state there. We've shown our disagreement at the price of the day and also by asking to sit down and discuss alternative solutions (soft and affordable) for our citizens,”, the Ministry of Infrastructure told Express.
However, now when taxation is expected to resume, they say they have not received any information from Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure if there will be a change of prices for citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
“What happened away, through protests (initially peaceful and then even gone through) caused the tax decision to be annulled (usually) and now when we are a few days before the resumption of this tax collection, we can say that in terms of communication and discussion of this matter, we are even earlier. We haven't accepted any requests either for the meeting, but we haven't agreed, like the Ministry of Infrastructure we're talking about, any announcements of new developments, whether of price change or anything else”, the answer continues.
According to them, the amount of five euros for small vehicles and 20 euros for larger vehicles is unaffordable for the pocket of Kosovo citizens.
For this, the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Kosovo says it is up to the Albanian state to make a more rational and affordable decision.
“A not exactly what we can say is, that these price reductions according to the number of circulation, is something that doesn't see how it will be implemented, we can't interpret, but if the price continues to be 5 euros for a small vehicle course and more than 20 Euros per large cars, this conflicts with the economic possibilities of the citizens of Kosovo and we continue to consider it unfair, by underlining that it is in the hands of Albanian state institutions, to make decisions as they estimate, as “=2x>>
We remember that against this tax imposed by the Albanian state, protests were organised by the citizens of the town of Kukes, who had later left behind, destroying all established sports that would serve for the payment of this tax. During severe clashes between residents of that section and police were injured at least 12 police officers and the local Kukes leader.
