He has ordered authorities in Macedonia that there is still much to do.

“The main message for the delegation and for the citizens of Macedonia is that the work has begun, the prospect for the EU will materialise. But this implies much work and much homework, emphasis on the rule of law. We will examine 160 thousand pages of European legislation, meaning the first phase for preparations towards EU access. Our relationship with you has entered a final phase. This is the way you have to cross to become part of the big European family. This is just the beginning and there's a lot of work to do”, Hahn said, adding that the EU has a very ambitious working calendar that he wants to complete by the end of next summer.

While Macedonia's deputy prime minister, Bujar Osmani stressed that the Republic of Macedonia is on an irreversible path towards the EU and that there is no turning back.

<x0-day and today Republic of Macedonia is writing history. The largest Macedonian delegation I chaired, along with representatives of the European Commission, has also formally begun the verification process, with which Macedonia began its final pre-preparative phase of opening talks with the EU. Today on the second day, I will find that we have succeeded. Macedonia is opening to EU membership”, Osmani said, Alsat M reported.
