The Macedonian opposition party, V MRO DPMNE has decided not to call for exit or failure to enter the 30 September referendum on the agreement with Greece, but everything has been left in the hands of citizens, so that they can decide on their conviction. The opposition's stance was disclosed by its leader, Hristian Mickovski, shortly before midnight Tuesday after marathon meetings of the highest party organs. Mickovski said that on major national issues, the parties should not decide, but the people and that any decision they will bring will be accepted by his party.
Criticising the deal with Greece as antinational, he said he believes citizens will bring the best decision, alluding to the referendum on September 30th.
“VMRO DPMNE has decided that every citizen will be allowed to act on his beliefs. Each individual brings the decision according to his conscience and his morale for which he values himself as the best, primarily for his family and our beloved Macedonia. Macedonia is everything and parties will not decide. On national issues, the nation will decide and prior to the decision it will make, we will all obey... Macedonia is not only of Mickovski and Zaev, or it is not just that VMRO and the LSDM, but of every citizen. You have everything in front of you, you have all the facts and I know what you have to do, you know what I want to tell you, but you just have to listen to your heart and eventually Macedonia will win”, the head of VMRO-DPMNE said, stressing that the name agreement with Greece on which Macedonia's NATO membership process depends and the opening of negotiations with the European Union is harmful to Macedonian identity, language and culture.
With this agreement, Mickovski said, the state's foundations are ruined, while Greece according to him, at any moment could block the EU integration process if they are not met, as he said, its demands for undoing Macedonian culture, history and identity.
The agreement with Greece on changing the name is a document that, me and VMRO - The DPMNE does not accept it because it is outside our principles and that everyone is aware that with this agreement the Constitution of Macedonia changes institutional identity, as an essential segment of the national identity of a people, a state. This agreement changes travel documents. With this document the commission is accepted for review and review of culture and tradition that in the future will pave the way for the southern neighbour to block Euro-Atlantic integration whenever he wishes and how he wishes. With this deal, they lose everything, our position, our arguments reached years ago. With this agreement, the UN resolution, the interim agreement and the international justice court's decision” disappears, Mickovski said, adding that VMRO strongly supports Macedonia's integration into NATO and the EU as it has supported since the establishment of pluralism, but also during its pre-communist action, that integration, according to her, cannot be accepted by undermining Macedonian identity, language and culture.
