Alarm has been given by the Order of Nurses, under which nurses currently active near health facilities are obliged to follow up to 11 patients simultaneously, and in some areas a nurse is in charge of up to 17 patients.
According to the Infermier Order, in the analysis of all regions of Italy, the most positive results are presented only in a few northern provinces that register a nurse for three patients.
Disturbing is the situation in Lombardi, where even the best hospitals are located at the national level, but about 4400 nurses are missing in these hospitals.
According to authorities, such figures have serious consequences, as there are increased risks for the sick but also for the nurses themselves. Concern is that about 40 percent of Italian nurses are forced to take extra hours to cover the needs of their patients.
The Infermies' order requires that the issue be resolved and has called an urgent meeting for review of this situation with Health Minister Giulia Grillo, and representatives of all Italian provinces.
Of course, one option to resolve the crisis is to recruit nurses to neighboring countries, as is Albania.
