Germany's Minister for Europe Michael Roth warned on Monday Kosovo and Serbia that changing their border will not solve any problems and said the future of the region is multiethnic, multireligious and multicultural.
“Dear friends in Kosovo and Serbia, rewrite borders will not solve any problems. Such an action would open Pandora's Box of ethnic hostilities. The future of the Western Balkans is simply multiethnic, multireligious and multicultural. United in diversity, this is Europe”, Roth said in a Twitter post.
The idea for changing borders has been unveiled by the presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, Hashim Thaci and Aleksandar Vuciq, as opportunities for resolving disputes between the two countries.
It has also been rejected on several occasions by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has said Berlin supports all talks that lead to normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, but that “border modernisation may have consequences for the Balkans”.
