The long - awaited news of Muslim believers is expected to live within a few days. The Central Mosque in Pristina will start building during September.
Although there have been many rumours in the past about its construction, news of the launch of mosque construction works has confirmed Kosovo's Islamic Community spokesman Ahmet Sadriu for Express.
He has said that the following days are expected to be placed around the site known as “The large post” in Pristina, on which the foundation stone for mosque construction is laid. Ahmeti explains that everything is already ready for the launch of the works.
“Too soon to start work. These days the parcel siege begins, and then the work begins. This is expected to happen during September”, Ahmeti has said.
But work on building this mosque has been dragged on by BIK for a year. The Pristina municipality during the past year had given the green light to this religious institution for the start of construction and construction conditions.
So they have declared officials of the municipality of Shpend Ahmeti. With all this, BIK law has to apply for construction permits in the Pristina municipality, and this has not yet been done.
The Kosovo Islamic Community has received the positive answer to construction conditions for more than a year. Recently, BIK representatives have sought to extend construction conditions, because under the law, construction conditions have their set deadline within which construction permits must be applied”, the municipality's response said.
From the municipality, they hope BIKU will soon submit the request for construction permits.
“Possibly, BIK is still not ready to proceed further, and as a result, it has not yet applied for building permit”, clear the municipality.
It has been more than six years since the foundation of the Central Mosque was laid in Pristina. The Central Mosque, whose location is expected to be in the sector “dania” near the Kosovo Telecom object, has been the topic of discussion between the Islamic Community of Kosovo and the Pristina Community for issuing permission for the start of construction.
Construction of this mosque had preceded a series of protests by the Muslim community, which had demanded that this cult be built in front of the cathedral “Mother Teresa” in the court of the Philological faculty. But after consultations between Pristina chairman and Kosovo's Islamic Community chief officer, consensus has been reached for the mosque to be built in the Ulpiana neighbourhood.
This mosque will be financed and built by the Turkish Islamic Community, while its cost is estimated to be 35m to 40m euros.
