The first phase of an electrical pistol experimentation in Italy begins, then extending throughout the territory.
It has been Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvin, who since July with a special ordinance has decided to use this gun “as an important instrument to ensure the work safety of law enforcement officers who can often be found in difficult situations”, and underlining that the Taser gun is a weapon against disobedience and not deadly.
The Taser gun is used at a distance of 3 to 7m and releases electrical impulses that block the movement of the hit subject.
Its use is based on a protocol drafted by the Department of Public Security at the Italian Interior Ministry. It needs to be taken care of the environment around it at the risk of an explosion of a fire or an electric spark as well as the physical state of people targeted as being in the case of a pregnant woman.
To launch the use of an electric pistol in Italy, there have been negative reactions both from Italian politics and from union police workers' organisations.
The political force “Liberia and urgal” has called for a parliamentary intervention to know what are government orientations in the use of this weapon, which they think is potentially fatal, which are the measures undertaken to avoid the risk of health and life of persons targeted by this gun. ”
Also, one of the union police forces organisations has come up against the use of this weapon, voicing the assumption that the <x0 federal police personnel are not properly prepared in its use, as well as in emergency management in possible cases when this weapon appears dangerous and deadly for subject”.
Currently, Taser pistols are used in about 100 countries around the world, and according to an appeal recently made by Amnesty International from 2000 to now the use of Taser has caused about 1,000 casualties.
