The latter today has officially taken office and held the first meetings. Sources have announced that Soreca has been introduced with the EU diplomatic representation staff in Albania today.
The man who replaced Romana Vlahatin in Tirana, more than a diplomat, seems to be a real expert on security, anti-mafia and drug issues.
In his life story published on the official site of the European Union, it says:
He (Luigi Sorca) and his team are tasked with implementing the European Agenda for Security, determining and developing activities from best practices in legislation, fighting terrorism, organised crime, corruption and other serious crimes.
Life Story of the new EU Ambassador to Tirana:
Louis Soreca is Director of Security at DG HOME.
Its directorate contributes to the Union's goal of providing a high level of security for European citizens and subsequently in the field of justice, freedom and security.
He and his team are tasked with implementing the European Agenda for Security, determining and developing activities from best practices in legislation, fighting terrorism, organised crime, corruption and other serious crimes, promotes co-operation in European-level law enforcement, even with the help of CEPOL's EUROOPOL. The Directorate is responsible for the development of anti-drug policies, even with the assistance of EMCDDA.
Thanks to the experience in International Affairs and Movement Partnership, Luigi Soreca negotiated and completed the Movement's Partnership with Morocco and Tunisia in 2012-2013 and has been at the head of the dialogue on Liberalisation of visas with Western Balkan countries, within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and the Russian Federation.
He was responsible for managing and implementing Global Migration and Movement (GAMM), as well as other international aspects of migration.
Sorenca has lectured law at L.U.I.S. University in Rome and worked for Italy's Interior Ministry for six years before joining the Commission in 1998.
He speaks fluent Italian, French, English, and Spanish.
