The meeting, which was held in severe tones, was held Sunday morning at the interior ministry's facilities. Local leaders of the order bodies in Tirana, Elbasan, Durres, Vlora and Shkodra, along with State Police head Ardi Veliu, have received strong criticism from the interior minister over the killings of the Mafia type that have occurred in recent months.
The meeting's target has also been public security in the country, armed assault on journalist Klodiana Lala in Tirana, but also the growing number of rounds from road accidents.
With harsh tones, the interior minister has informed police leaders in the centre and in circles that if the situation does not change within this month the measures will be extreme until the dismissal.
Xhafaj has asked that the investigation sectors work be analysed in district directors where there are unfinished events and measures to change the situation.
During the interior ministerial meeting, the police director general has asked the police's immediate departure from local directors or criminal police of the disabled and of those whose records include illegal activities.
During the discussion with police leaders Xhafaj, he has urged the subordinates to step up co-operation with other institutions with the aim of clarifying criminal events. He has asked directors at the centre and districts to sue in cases when prosecutors drag up investigations or become an obstacle to preventing perpetrators of criminal acts in the country from being arrested.
