However, the inauguration of this bridge that was to take place in 2017 has not yet happened.
Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri, in a pronomination for Telegrafi, has said he has not yet received any news of when the inauguration of this bridge can be made, even though according to him, it has had to be done this month.
Bahtiri indicated that she spoke with the chief of the EU office in Pristina on Friday, Nataliya Apostolova, who has told her that after two weeks the bridge in Mitrovica is expected to be inaugurated.
The Agreement has been to clear the bridge this month. We are waiting from the EU office to start the bridge opening procedures. We still don't have such news. I was looking for Apostolova yesterday, but he told me that in two weeks it's going to be something like this.
He also stressed that he feels revolted over the date of delaying the inauguration of the bridge over the Iber River, appealing to the European Union (BE) as well as to the government of the Republic of Kosovo to react from this extension of the inaugural deadline.
I'm revolted, because every time it's been postponed for no reason to open the bridge. Appeals to The EU and the Kosovo government to react sharply from this delay. It has come to an end, to speed up procedures after the bridge connects the city and the nationalities that live in Mitrovica. I prefer to open as soon as possible, because citizens have lost their patience”, Mitrovica municipality chairman Agim Bahtiri said.
Meanwhile, long ago the European Union Office (BE) in Kosovo has said that they expect the agreements reached within the dialogue, including the reconstruction of the bridge, to be fully implemented.
The EU also expects the agreement on the Mitrovica Bridge to be implemented fully without further delay. Future discussions at the level of key negotiators should contribute to further advancing full implementation of this” agreement, the EU office reportedly announced.
Otherwise, the project funded by the European Union (BE), for the re-visitation of the main bridge in Mitrovica, started on August 14th 2016, with an investment worth 1m and 45 thousand euros, under the agreement on freedom of movement reached on August 25th 2015, between Pristina and Belgrade in Brussels.
