Unless it is known whether or not this meeting will be a topic of discussion the idea of reforming borders, opposition parties in Kosovo are not united in opposition, though all have been declared against such initiative.
All of the opposition parties, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Vetevendosje Movement and the Social Democrat Party are willing to co-operate among themselves, but still have no plan on how to act together.
LDK MP Driton Selmanaj says they are in touch with Vetevendosje and does not rule out the possibility of achieving a common opposition stance.
With the start of the next year's session, we will enter an internal consultative process of opposition political parties to see which common forms of responses can bring efficiency to stop, the first and the continuation of negotiations, and not to talk about stopping even these dangerous adventures for the state”, MP Selmanaj told Radio Free Europe.
In Vetevendosje they are ready for co-operation, but they say this does not mean the involvement of this political subject in any negotiating group or unity group.
Vetevendosje MP Xhelal Svecla says Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is not the person representing the country's interesting citizens.
“Hashim Thaci cannot lead any delegation, or any talks with Serbia because we have bad experience with him. Because he himself is a person who has testified that for his private interests he is willing to sacrifice the interests of this country, even because he is not a figure that represents the political unity of this country and its political structures. As for the opposition, we are co-ordinating with the Democratic League of Kosovo for further steps”, Svechla said.
The Social Democrat Party days ago called on other opposition parties to support its initiative to call for an extraordinary session of the Kosovo Parliament to discuss the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
PSD parliamentary group chief Dardan Sejdiu denies having found support or readiness from the LDK and Vetevendosje for co-operation.
We've also been willing that in other initiatives, whether by LDK or Vetevendosje, we've been able to join, but there's still no co-ordination will from these two subjects. Simply, each one takes a stand, so to speak, that they are not giving any ideas for moving forward. They are simply rigid attitudes and attitudes that are allowing President Thaci to continue this rhetoric which, unfortunately, leads us nowhere”, Sejdiu said.
Muhariri: Opposition expects more clarity from internationals
This opposition failure, according to political analyst Artan Mujaziri, is taking place because the Kosovo opposition is expecting a clearer approach of the international factor.
“This topic has caught the Kosovo opposition completely unprepared and therefore does not have a unified and structured position in relation to the idea of President Thaci. So the main question is that the Kosovo opposition is in the midst of fears for the success of President Thaci's idea and international community criticism. It's an undefined state in relation to this idea”, Mujariri said.
According to him, the opposition's common position and unification at this phase of the talks would produce a positive effect, but, until it becomes clear what the international reaction will be, it is impossible.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci was rejected by all political subjects, as well as by many European, supportive states of Kosovo, in the idea of mending borders.
Days earlier, President Thaci said that by February of next year, the final agreement on normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is expected to be reached. / REL
