Due to threats, the special prosecutor who attended terrorism cases resigns

Kosovo Special Prosecutor Elez Blakaj has resigned two days ago from the Prosecution.

The news of his resignation has confirmed to the newspaper “Koha Ditore” Chief Special Prosecutor Reshat Milaku.

On August 13th, we have accepted the announcement of the prosecutor Blakaj's resignation. We don't know the reasons for”, he said short.

However, newspaper sources within justice institutions have indicated that Blakaj has resigned because of threats he has accepted during his work as prosecutor.

“Blaj has repeatedly complained that he has accepted threats during his duty. He also complained about non-invasive institutional protection”, this source said.

Throughout Tuesday the paper has been trying to get an answer from Blakaj about his resignation, but he has been informed of the nature of the questions, has expressed no readiness to answer.

In recent years, Elez Blakaj has followed some of the terrorism-related cases. He had filed similar charges against the Kontros imam Shefqet Krasniqi, and groups of different radical individuals.

Blakaj also accused of recruiting terrorists and former gynenamine Zekiria Qazimi and his group. The same are convicted of these charges, with an all-powerful verdict, by the tribunal.
