Rukiqi: Kosovo lacks qualified workers

The chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Economics (OEK), Berat Rukiqii, has talked about problems facing businesses, as well as decisions the Government of Kosovo has made. According to him, in addition to problems that businesses lack of electricity, infomorality and labour power, the local economy must be free of politics.

In the case of Kosovo, there is a great need to be dismissed from political themes and to be the biggest priority economy”, Rukiqi told Telegrafi.

It also tells of other business problems. So the lack of proper job-power qualifications presents problems for businesses. This would have to be the best agenda for economic reforms and changes in the country, because these requirements for improving the terms of the line directly from business”, Rukiqi said.

According to him, Kosovo is the country with the highest unemployment rate in Europe, but there are also open jobs, but there is lack of qualified labour power.

The “should strengthen the private sector and not create differences between the private sector and the public, as is the case with the salaries”, he said.

OEK Chairman Berat Rukiqi has said we should be guided by sectors that have potential for export, not expect economic development from Trepca

“We cannot create myths in the economy that Trepca can be salvation, or large export of energy, mining these are preconditions but not necessary for economic development. One sector that has great potential for development is the wood processing sector, services, information technology and other sectors”, he has said.

The decision for protection measures for trees and vegetables, as well as for the milk imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina, taken by the Government of Kosovo, according to him, has been poorly analysed and without effect.

“Before protective decisions are made, analysis should be made because a measure has effects only when it goes to the overall benefit of the economy. But when it touches and hurts only one sector does not have the right effect. Defence measures should also be applied with international agreements, but an analysis and consultations with businesses are needed. Measures are taken when the country is threatened by import, but as OEK we haven't noticed any changes. This decision taken is a decision
well analyzed”, Rukiqi said.

OEK's chairman in this interview has also talked about the CEFTA agreement, as well as WTO membership.
