Kosovo Special Prosecutor Elez Blakaj has resigned due to threats he has taken in connection with his work.

Prosecutor Blakaj was investigating allegations of abuses on the KLA veterans' lists, while it has been taken with several cases of terrorism trials.

RTV21 sources say prosecutor Blakaj and his family have fled to America. Blackay had also recently completed his schooling in the United States.

For the resignation of special prosecutor Elez Blakaj, the American Embassy in Pristina has also reacted.

US Ambassador Greg Delaway says it is painful that one of the country's prosecutors is forced to resign because of threats.

The American response says the prosecutor retired from his duties had the support of the American government.

Elez Blakaj, on July 11th 2018, has filed the indictment against top veterans' profile, which is considered one of the most volumeful and sensitive subjects, but which is staying in the Special Prosecutor's Office and has not yet been sent to the Court.

The Special Prosecutor, with Blakaj's resignation, remains with 12 prosecutors, while in September two of them reach retirement age, while the Prosecutorial Council is under way recruiting for 5 prosecutors.
