“70 of young people want to leave Albania because they have no prospects for finding a job. 80% say they are unhappy with the government because it does not meet its obligations. ILO says Albania holds the record in Europe for youth unemployment”, said Altin Hazizaj, director of CRCA.
According to the International Labour Organisation's latest report, (ILO) Albania this year ranks first in the world as far as youth unemployment figures are concerned. Leaving Macedonia second, which was ranked first on the list last year, while Albania was second. According to Hazizaj, there are several factors why young people are unemployed.
The Albanian government does not have a mechanism to implement policies for young people. Of the 60 municipalities that have the country, only the Tirana municipality has sections or units dealing with young people”, Hazizaj said.
According to the National Action Plan, the government must fulfil six obligations at the address of young people, such as the opening of youth centres, participation in decision-making, youth cards and dedicated budgets. While the Albanian government has fulfilled 21% of the 70% promises it should have fulfilled.
