The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council has reacted to recent developments following prosecutor Blakaj's resignation.

In this response the council has said it has constitutional and legal obligation to ensure that the State Prosecutor acts as independent and impartial, respecting fundamental human rights and freedoms and guaranteeing equality for all citizens of Kosovo, including suspects of criminal acts.

“Tendence that meetings of the prosecutorial system management bodies with prosecutors be presented before the opinion as impacts on certain cases are completely groundless, deliberate and with a tendency to reduce the positive image and work of the Council and State Prosecutor. The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council guarantees Kosovo's citizens that it will continue its unhurt work to create an environment in which order rules and law”, the report said.

“Tendence to tarnish the work of the Prosecutorial Council and its organs, as well as efforts to devalate the State Prosecutor's work by anyone, including political groups, are unacceptable and label them as interference in our work and violation of guaranteed independence with Constitutions and law”, is further said in response.

In this reaction The KKP provides public opinion that the Council has created infrastructure and resources needed for real work by prosecutors in implementing their mandate in the fight against crime of all forms.

“Also, the Council will not allow any kind of compromise -- by anyone and for no case -- for any prosecutor, regardless of his position in the prosecutorial system, in case of violations and failure to carry out the job as required by law”, it is further said.
