Former EU special envoy for Kosovo fears the frozen conflict in Kosovo and allows for even “cosmetic correction of borders”

Indeed, there is the danger of frozen conflict in Kosovo. That would be in the interest of some political actors both native and international to continue destabilizing states in the region. Let's make this stop. The European Commission, under Juncker's leadership, Hahni's Moghrin, will soon be the “issue of the past”.

In 2019 there are elections for the European Parliament, and I am afraid the new composition of the European Commission can avoid choosing the Kosovo issue because the preliminary composition has not done so. Timinging to take the place is, therefore, of essential importance, said in conversation to the Belgrade newspaper “Danas” Wolfgang Petritsch, former EU special envoy for Kosovo and former senior representative of the international community for BiH, asked what the frozen conflict for Belgrade and Pristina meant, broadcast newspapers.net.

Asked about his previous statement for a “cosmetic correction” as possible solution for Kosovo and its clarification that this “would have little influence on a small number of villages in the suburb of Bujanovac and Mitrovica”, as well as on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's stance, which strongly opposes changing borders in the Balkans, Petritsch says:

) Of course, the German Chancellor “'s word weighs” and I respect her opinion. However, given the complicated current dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, I am now convinced that we should listen carefully to the recipients of political decisions in these two capitals. Even while I was a senior representative in Bosnia, I have committed myself to the process of self - responsibility. Only recently has it proved that this could “fold” in Macedonia, when Prime Minister Zaev has made a very bold and very contradictory decision on the name of the state. Greece and Macedonia have taken 26 years to resolve this historic conflict I hope this will be effective. Now we have remained the last historic conflict, the one between Serbs and Albanians, and I see here that an opportunity is probably opening up in many years to come. I am fully aware that the “administrative correction” of the borders has potential shortcomings if there is no close co-operation with the UN, the OSCE EU. In light of the upcoming referendum in Macedonia and, it is possible to make the near decision in the dialogue process between Belgrade and Pristina, I propose that the binding document be prepared in order to be placed at all future border disputes, including the Bosnia issue, as we know, even further there are some minor differences between the heir countries of the former Yugoslavia, which must be resolved. Even EU member states. Croatia and Slovenia have “their Adriatic issue”. So it would be a fine opportunity to close all these open issues and put an end to all the revisional fantasies. Why? Because the geopolitical situation in the Balkans is changing quickly, and not to the benefit of the Balkans. The rise of China, which is welcome in the economic plan, is causing major concerns to Brussels, as well as the activities of other actors outside the EU, such as Turkey, the Gulf countries and, of course, Russia. I repeat, these are all welcome to contribute to economic development, but all countries in the region want to become more European and, finally, members of the European Union. Therefore, European regulations and regulations need to be in line. Come on, let's ask people, including those in potentially hit parts of Serbia and Kosovo, and then make the decision, which will be in harmony with the principles of internationally accepted multiethnicity and principles.

Petritsch has said he has no personal contact with Thaci's Vucic, but that he has read some of their statements about border correction and invites “to support bold political decisions, in the name of people to whom they belong”.

He is not sure whether there will be quick solutions, but he hopes his personal initiative will help “make the right decision”.

Asked whether you think the Kosovo issue can also be found at an international conference called “Dayton two”, Petritsch thinks Russia should be included:

As I have said in one of my answers, I can imagine a similar format with Dayton, and I am committed to including Russia, so that once and for all the situation in the post-Yugoslav Yugoslavia can be cleared, as well as to focus on vital political and economic issues and in the future of the EU, which includes Western Balkan countries as equal partners.

If not Nobel, he expects Thaci and Vucic can receive Carl's award, which each year divides the city of Aachen for citizens and statesmen, who have helped advance the situation in Europe.
