This is the first achievement in the Asian country following national demands for greater gender equality. Japan is a traditionally male dominated country.
First Lieutenant Misa Matsushima, 26, will begin his post Friday after completing her F-15 exercise, the Japanese Army announced.
“As the first female military pilot, I will pave the way for other women,” she told reporters.
Japan's air force began recruiting women in 1993, except for fighter planes.
But he lifted the ban at the end of 2015.
I want to continue working hard to fulfill my task, not only for myself but also for women who will follow this path in the future,”- said Matsushima.
Three other women are being trained to join the elite team of fighter pilots.
