Even today, there are disagreements over the departure of Serbs from Krajina. Some Croatian historians claim that the majority of Krajina Serbs have long decided that if Krajina falls, it will be said there were deportations, Croatian media broadcast.
However, there has been continued pressure on the Serb population in Krajina under the leadership of notorious Mile Martic, former president of the so-called Serbian Krajina Republic.
Martic's authority repeatedly spread disinformation among the population and scared them with a silent rhetoric, and kept them in hysteria constantly and all culminated in the decision that came personally from him to begin with the planned evacuation of a full population that did not get involved in fighting by the municipalities of Knin, Benkovac, Drnis and Gracac.
The decision was made on August 4th at 4:45, and the public in Krajina was announced the same day at 8:00. This is the content of the decision:
The Supreme Defence Council of Republika Krajina, at today's session, decided to organise an evacuation of the Northern Dalmatian civilian population and the southern part of Lika for preventative and security reasons. In organizing the evacuation and association of the population, members of the UN peacekeeping forces will actively participate, along with the RSK Civil Protection.
For this move, the Supreme Defence Council decided to protect the civilian population from possible further attacks by Croatian artillery and that Serb fighters holding defence lines would be relieved of concern for their families (...) The Supreme Defence Council appeals to Krajina citizens, in the area from which evacuation of the population is organised, not to take self-intensive action and not to fall under Croatian propaganda. For all information, citizens can contact local Civil Trusts. Once again, it is emphasized that members of the U. NPROFOR actively participate in the evacuation organisation. ”
Before the Storm operation, which ended Serbia's Croatian occupation, incumbent Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq had declared that Serbian Krajina and Glina would never be Croatian.
The Banika will never return under Croatia. No one even knows in this room what state Slobodan Milosevic is engaged in. Will Belgrade Honor or any AVNOJ, what kind of states will it be? If Serbian radicals win and defeat Serbia's president, you know you will live in Greater Serbia, a unique Serbian state and there will be no avoidance of”, Serbian criminal Voislav Seshel had said that world Vuciq at Gline as a close associate.
Vucinac later denied that he had ever been to Glina.
