Police have found at least half a ton of marijuana hidden on the floor of a tourist bus that was hit in Ecuador, leaving 23 people dead.
Nearly 600 packs of drugs were found by a junkie dog in the bus ruins that collapsed Tuesday near Quito.
National Drug Police Director General Carlos Alulema told reporters that three buses from Colombia had stopped this year and some 400kg of cocaine and 600 marijuana were found under similar circumstances.
South American countries regularly use drug - trafficking gangs to transport cocaine to the United States.
Colombia said Wednesday that 19 of the 23 victims were its citizens. While authorities will ask the 22 injured passengers, mainly Colombians, to try to determine “who is responsible for” for drug trafficking.
