In Japan for the first time, a female pilot is certified to fly an F-15 fighter plane. Twenty-six-year-old Lieutenant Misa Matsushima, in charge of Japan's Air Defense Forces, has received the certificate for using a fighter aircraft after completing F15 flight training.
Matsumisa is the first woman to gain the pilot's right to fighter jet in the country's history.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the pilot will be on duty at the Nyutabaru Air Base 5 unit in the Miyazaki region, south of the country.
This unit serves for immediate intervention by aircraft entering Japan's airspace without permission.
The defence ministry aims to double the number of female staff members working in military units, removing restrictions on the areas of women's work.
