The head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, Avdullah Hoti, has welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement against changing borders and expects the promotion of this idea in Kosovo and Serbia to stop after that.
In the 10th anniversary of Kosovo's independence, this idea, according to Hoti, has highlighted the political uncertainty of the Western Balkans, which will push for the region's Euro integration processes, but also the worsening economic and social situation, by burdening the lives of citizens.
The good news is that critical measures of the political spectrum have already been created in Kosovo not to allow such experiments that are being done on personal terms. What has already happened is sending vague signals to our friends and to states that have not yet recognised us about what Kosovo citizens want. This has put our diplomacy and that of friendly countries, which has resulted in full stoppage of Kosovo's integration into international mechanisms where possible, and has fully stopped new recognitions”, Hoti writes on his Facebook profile.
By contrast, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has voiced opposition to border correction, this idea of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.
Top Serbian officials, including President Aleksandar Vuciq and diplomacy chief Ivica Dacic, have also indicated for redefining the borders with Kosovo.
His full post:
I've welcomed Chancellor Merkel's clear statement against changing borders. I expect after this statement, as well as the statements of several other governments, to stop the people in Kosovo and Serbia who are promoting this idea, which they are obviously doing in a coordinated way.
On the 10th anniversary of Kosovo's independence, this idea has highlighted the political uncertainty of the entire Western Balkans. This will certainly postpone the region's Euro integration processes, but it will also affect the deteriorating economic and social situation, prolonging the lives of citizens.
The good news is that critical measures of the political spectrum have been created in Kosovo now to prevent such experiments being done on personal terms.
However, what has already happened is to send vague signals to our friends and to states that have not yet known us about what Kosovo citizens want. This has put our diplomacy and that of friendly countries, which has resulted in a complete stop to integrate Kosovo into intercommunicative mechanisms where possible, and has completely stopped new recognitions.
