EULEX: Redouble attempts at resolving the fate of the found ones

“EULEX has long offered technical assistance to the Kosovo Institute for Legal Medicine through the team of forensic experts to locate, identify and return the morto remains of those found in their families. “Since EULEX is handing over key responsibilities in the field of rule of law to Kosovo's relevant institutions in accordance with its new reconfigured mandate that included the work of the Law Medicine Institute ♫ it is necessary for the country's authorities to show real commitment and double efforts to resolve the fate of the undiscovered<62>, said Mission chief EULEX Alexandra Papadopoulos.
“Under the new mandate, EULEX continues to have specialised forensic capacity. “We are willing to continue offering expertise to this kind of counterparts from Kosovo whenever needed and required”, Papadopoulos said.
Since 2008, E ULEX has conducted 609 operations in the field with the aim of identifying and connecting mortar waste, including 153 exhumations. The remains of 440 individuals have been identified, 307 of which were missing persons. 506 mortar remains have been returned to their families. EULEX has also enabled DNA analysis of 2261 bone samples.
