EU foreign ministers gather today in Vienna, discuss Balkan countries as well

On August 30th and 31st, EU foreign ministers, at the invitation of federal Minister Karin Kneissl and top diplomat Federica Moghrini gather in Vienna for an informal meeting known as “Gymnich”. They offer the opportunity to discuss important issues in an informal manner. Contrary to the EU Council meetings, there is no agenda at these meetings and no official document issued at the end.
Mogher leads “Gymnic” and in agreement with the state holding the rotating presidency, compiles the points of discussion. The main topic of discussion is current issues in the Middle East, transatlantic relations, Southeast Europe, and so on.
European Commissioner Hahn will also attend the meeting.
The informal meeting will open with a discussion on current developments in the Middle East; the situation is expected to be in Yemen, Libya and Syria; also, Iran and the Middle East conflict are expected to be on the agenda.
During the work session on transatlantic relations, the overall state of relations will be discussed and concrete issues such as the possibility of co-operation regarding North Korea's nuclear disarmament will be addressed.
Discussions about Southeast Europe will be addressed in the coming months of enlargement with a focus. The enlargement works session will take place together with EU candidate countries Albania, the former Yugoslav republic Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.
