Etna volcano reawakens

After months of signals showing a gradual intensification of explosive activity, the most active volcano in Italy, Etna, performed last night with an explosion from the new southeast crater. Fenomen, confined to the top of the volcano, is monitored by Ethneo Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv). After the revision in July, Etna's activity has resumed with an unusual power. On the late afternoon of August 23rd, a sudden increase in volcanic earthquake spread announced the start of a weak explosive activity by the so-called “saddle range”, which lies halfway between the old and new crater of the southeast, the ATSH writes.
The event has become almost steady, with the launch of incandescent light bombs up to about 150m above the crater. Then, about 20:30 on the same day, a small stream of lava was observed from another mouth of the new Southeast crater, located on the upper side of the cone, the lava flow was accompanied by sporadic and weak eruptions.
