Driton Selmanaj warns Thaci's collapse with a political movement

Selmanaj during the talk for “Gazeta Blic”, said Thaci's actions in reporting on dialogue with Serbia are dangerous for the country.

I think that these Thaci actions are dangerous for the present and for the future of Kosovo, and at least it had to be in charge of this process because of the constitutional mandate it has to protect the sovereignty, the territory of Kosovo”, Selmanaj has declared.

Selmanaj has said that mobilisation of all political parties is needed to force Thaci to resign from his post.

We need the mobilization of opposition parties with other political parties to limit the president to that point who will be forced to resign from the post. Because the way we are especially approaching dialogue with Serbia is jeopardising all that we have achieved so far”, he has indicated.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has dismissed the idea of dividing the country under ethnic lines to resolve the dispute with Serbia.

In an interview for The Associated Press, Thaci said he was open to discuss “a correction” of borders during peaceful negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia.

Serbia's “request for a partition of Kosovo will not be successful. It is unacceptable, he added. In 1999, NATO intervened to prevent the bloody persecution of Serbian forces against Albanian separatists in Kosovo.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and is recognised as an independent state by more than 100 countries, but not from Serbia. Tensions continue to remain high even after seven years of negotiations, even though the EU has made clear to governments in Pristina and Belgrade, that they must normalise relations in order to join the EU.

The president was convinced that negotiations with Serbia, under EU leadership and closely observed by the United States, would soon result in bilateral recognition. “If the correction of the Kosovo-Serbia border and a final agreement with mutual recognition are reached, if such an agreement is balanced and bilateral, it would be a favourable victory for both sides, where all would reconcile”, Thaci added.
