Obama used Twitter to write a status on his behalf, and his wife, Michele Obama, to honour John's “political execution” against the United States.

Barack and John competed against each other in the presidential race in 2008.
Even Bill and his wife, Hillary Clinton, issued a joint statement thanking John for his service over the years, sending all their love for his wife and family.
