China's Foreign Ministry has said it is “concerned” by statements of “irresponsible” made by US President Donald Trump, who has said Beijing is not putting enough pressure on North Korea to disunit the Korean Gadishillin.
Through a Twitter post, Trump said China “is not helping” on this issue, due to trade tensions with the US.
The US statement is contrary to facts and is irresponsible. We are deeply concerned with this and have officially reacted to the American side”, said spokesman Lu Kang, during a news conference.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman defended China's “hardworking” efforts to promote the delearisation of North Korea “through dialogue and consultation”.
China is one of the few allies that has North Korea and has offered significant support to help this isolated country's economy.
President Trump has asked US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to cancel his visit to North Korea earlier next week.
Trump has argued this request, saying that North Korea has not made sufficient progress in disunlearimation.
