More than 40 children were on the boat, whose engine broke down during a strong current that spand a mile [2.5 km] of the Nile River.
The children, who were between seven and 16 years of age, were panicned, tried on one side, and the boat was overturned, said BBC school director Albinfo.ch.
Only two bodies have been found.
Ab el-Hayr Adam Yunis, high school director é Kenbaı, said students usually went to school on foot, but used the boat last week after there was plenty of rain.
The victims were mostly girls.
“A family lost five daughters and three other families each lost two children, while two families lost three children each. ”
The telephone network was flawed because of the rains, making it difficult for the school principal to report on the accident. As soon as the phones started working, they called the city, but help came in five hours.
The inhabitants of the area are mostly from the Manaseer tribe.
They have often raised concerns about flooding their lands as a result of building a controversial moth.
