At a joint meeting held in municipal administration facilities in Mitrovica, the aforementioned mayors of municipalities have expressed their deep concern over the recent statements of some senior state officials, both in Kosovo and Serbia, about the possibility of changing or exchanging territory between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia.
At the meeting, Bahtiri, Jashari and Tahiri have strongly opposed the idea of potentially changing borders, or exchanging territories between Kosovo and Serbia, in the talks to stabilise relations between the two states that will continue in Brookesl over the coming days. They estimate that such a thing is Serbia's imminent goal and harmful to the state of Kosovo and its citizens, and that, as a result, there may be only uncertainty and destabilisation of the situation.
The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo is clear and decidatory. It in no way allows the changing borders of the state of Kosovo nor the exchange of any part of its territory. Kosovo's top representatives of the state, but even all citizens are obliged by constitution to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Kosovo, so we stand firm in the protection of these principles, and we even more strongly oppose trends and ideas about partitioning or exchanging the territory of the state of Kosovo”, said mayors Bahtiri, Jashar and Tahiri.
