But President Thaci in an interview for the Associated Press today said he is open to discuss “a correction” of borders during peaceful negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia.
Serbia's “request for a partition of Kosovo will not be successful. It is unacceptable”, he said.
According to the AP, the Serbian government has said that a possible solution could be an exchange of territories based on where Serbs and Albanians are concentrated, the region of northern Kosovo Mitrovica for the Presevo Valley in Serbia.
In the AP interview, Thaci said there will be no “division, but a correction of the” border, with a possible union of the Presevo Valley with Kosovo. He did not say if he would trade for northern Mitrovica.
The president was determined that negotiations with Serbia, under EU leadership and closely pursued by the United States, would soon result in mutual recognition.
“If the correction of the Kosovo-Serbia border and the final agreement on mutual recognition are reached, if such an agreement is mutual and balanced, it means a favourable victory for both sides, then no one would be against it”, he said.
