Ambassador Delawi's comments follow various scriptures in recent days, as say the American administration's approach to Kosovo.
The United States is one of Kosovo's closest and supportive friends, despite what you can read in the media, this has not changed and will not change”, Ambassador Delawi said, underlining that the partnership between the two countries is deep and very dimensional.
The scriptures on changing the American approach to Kosovo coincided with the opening period of discussions about ways for reaching an agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, in which ideas that include partitioning Kosovo, exchange of territories or correcting borders have been put on hold.
Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, said on Thursday he commits himself to partition between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo, echoing Serbia's demands for the land division of Kosovo under the process of normalising relations.
Kosovo has dismissed the idea of its land division, while we are involved in debates prompted by President Hashim Thaci's idea of overhauling the”, which according to him, means uniting the Presevo Valley, a majority Albanian region in southern Serbia with Kosovo.
Serbia has pledged that it will not recognise Kosovo's independence, which was declared in February 2008 with the support of the United States and the European Union. But it is involved in a negotiation process for normalising relations with Kosovo, which is also a condition for the European integrations of both sides.
European Commission spokesman Carlos Martin said on Friday that a permanent solution to relations between Kosovo and Serbia should be realistic and sustainable.
The European Union-brokered “Dialog aims to promote the achievement of permanent co-operation between both sides and to help them achieve progress on the road to Europe, improve the lives of their people. The final solution implies a permanent solution, meaning a realistic, sustainable and possible solution, in accordance with international law”, he said.
The talks are expected to resume in September and would have to lead to a comprehensive legal binding agreement for normalising relations. / VoA/
