Out of the 1400 tickets that police had pronounced approximately during a day before July 24th, Kosovo Police after this date when the task-force was established have pronounced 300-400 tickets more.
During this two - week period, seven people have lost their lives in road accidents until some 300 injuries have occurred.
However, in the Kosovo Police say this road accident prevention plan has yet to be expected to yield concrete results.
Kosovo Police spokesman Daut Hoxha tells Radio Free Europe that he referred to statistics for July compared to the same period in the preliminary year, there are two fewer people dead as a result of traffic accidents.
“Velrates that intensive police capacity commitments for greater safety on the road have also contributed to the increase in the number of flat ticketing for different traffic violations and, of course, task-forca has been under way for nearly two weeks and we expect that in an optimial period we will have the first effects on the ground”, Hoxha says.
The Kosovo Police Task Force for the Prevention of Road Accidents has influenced the KKUK Emergency Clinic to have had less work after the weekend. So says Kosovo University Clinical Centre Emergency Director Basri Lenyan.
There are probably less (injury) sentences, especially today until lunch we have no confirmed accidents, that usually Monday and Friday there are mostly accidents caused by”, Lenyan says.
Lenyan told Radio Free Europe that in the last three months, nine deaths from accidents have been recorded, but according to him, the task force created by police has influenced the number of injured to decline.
“Qerhor, July and August have requested assistance of 1250 injured while belonging to the weekend, we have 36 cases that requested emergency medical services. The number usually behaves between 12 and 24 injured in accidents within 24 hours”, Lenyan says.
However, drivers who are most of the time in traffic have not noticed a major change since the task force implementation began. One of them who didn't want his identity made public, has said that with just the pronunciation of fines, drivers cannot become aware.
I've never seen any change. There's a radar point in here, no patrols in the city. Now an hour ago I saw the police, they went out to the restaurant Rugoova, but something extra I didn't see, says this driver.
Even in the first 4 months of this year, there were many fatal accidents, where 29 people lost their lives.
In order to prevent and reduce cases of legal violations in traffic, punitive measures have been tightened this year, but statistics have not shown any improvement even after these austerity measures. /rel
