Until August 28th, 213 fever cases from the Western Nile were recorded in Serbia, of which 21 were fatal.
According to the Institute for Public Health of Serbia, most cases were reported in Belgrade (108), as well as in South Backa (36), South Banai (32) and Podunavska (11).
The infection of the western Nile virus was officially registered for the first time in Serbia at the end of July 2012.
It is said to be a seasonal disease that occurs during the largest activity of mosquitoes.
The infection is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected mosquitoes, while <x0-reservors<x1) are the most important birds of the virus and can be transmitted from man to man.
