The death of prominent activities Ademi Demac has also taken place in the world media. The Washington Post has published an article on the Balkan “Mandela”, who died yesterday of natural causes at the age of 82.
The article recalls that Demac has spent nearly three decades in Serbia's prisons, and that Kosovo has declared three days of mourning in honor and memory of the national resistance figure.
Demach was originally known as a writer, then a human rights advocate, was arrested three times and spent 28 years in prison for resisting the former Yugoslavia regime. After the war, Demach was again part of the political scene, becoming more involved in protecting minority rights.
He left behind his wife, a boy and a daughter.
