The European Commission is still not known when it will publish the recommendation for abolishing visas or not for Kosovo. Government officials say they are sure this will happen before summer vacation, while connoisseurs of integration issues say such procrastinations are of concern to the country.
Although institutional leaders in Kosovo had pledged that the European Commission's recommendation (KE) for visas would be published during late June or during the first week of July, this has not yet happened.
Rather, it has already been two months since EC experts had come to Kosovo to collect facts about meeting the last criterion for liberalisation, fighting organised crime and corruption.
While EC officials have told the newspaper “Voice” that the assessment on this issue is still ongoing, European Integration Minister Donus Hoxha has declared that the EC report will be released before summer holidays.
But concerned about this procrastination have been expressed by integration experts, who have estimated that failure to publish the recommendation so far presents no good news for Kosovo.
According to them, the European Commission had to publish this report farther than July 2 or 3.
