Trade representative Robert Lighthier on Tuesday published a list of thousands of additional goods that may face 10% tariffs.
The list includes fruits and vegetables, bags, refrigerators, jackets and gloves.
The move comes after the United States imposed 25% tariffs for Chinese goods worth $34 billion last Friday.
Beijing responded immediately by raising the tariffs for US goods worth $34 billion.
The US tariff set comes after Donald Trump's threat last month. He asked that Chinese goods, worth $200 billion, be identified to decide if Beijing would decide to take revenge on US trafficking aimed at punishing the country for stealing intellectual property.
