It is this first trial by investigations into Russia's intervention in the US presidential elections in 2016.
Paul Manafort faces 18 counts, including bank fraud, and may face a 30-year sentence if convicted.
The manual, who has led Trump's campaign for three months, has not pleaded guilty.
Before joining Trump's team in the summer of 2016, Manafort worked for several republican presidential campaigns, including that of Gerald Ford in the mid - 1970s and Ronald Reagan from 1978 to 1980.
