All the country's public universities will open the competition for accepting new students on July 9th. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has approved the number proposed by these universities for the 2018/2019 academic year. Burim Gashi from the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education told public television that this procedure occurs every year and that universities should propose the number for students based on recommendations of the Agency of Discension.
The high education subx0 institutions should be based on the decisions of the Accreditation Agency that accredit study programmes, as they began in 2016 to accredit programmes based on the number of students. If a public institution is applying for a re-accreditation programme, on the basis of infrastructure to get 200 students” Gashi has said.
The country's largest university “hasan Pristina” will accept about 8 thousand and 200 young students for this academic year. Prorector Nasser Sahiti has said that even this year most students will be enrolled in the Economics, Jurydical, Education, Medicine, Philosophy and Philological faculty.
We have demanded that we accept a total of 8 thousand and 512 new students at Pristina University for the 2018/2019 academic year, where 7 thousand and 600 will be registered regularly, while 910 with corruption. Those priority categories, where 2% of them are from close families of martyrs, 12 % from non-communities and 5 %s from neighbouring Kosovo countries”, Sahiti said.
Meanwhile, at the Conference of Rectors and Public Universities it has been discussed to have support with academic staff among public universities. Also discussed is the budgetary situation of universities and the need to increase the budget for improving conditions in all aspects. Also discussed was the need for the adoption of the statutes of several public universities in the Kosovo Assembly, which function in provisional statutes.
