The Slovak Foreign Ministry says it is concerned by the fact that “the night waters”, a nationalist gang of Russian bikers, close to Vladimir Putin, has now established a base in Slovakia.
The base has old military vehicles and is located in Dolna Krupa, a village 70km from the capital of Bratislava.
The Russian government calls them the European headquarters of wolves. The bikers are subject to US sanctions and are accused of offering assistance to the pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine.
The Slovak Foreign Ministry spokesman told the BBC that night wolves' activities should be monitored carefully.
“We think that the influence of members of this group is harmful, especially in spreading their opinions that are directed towards rewriteing the history”, he said.
Asked to specify these contradictory opinions, he said: The crime is, it was, and will be Russian, that Stalin was a great hero, that NATO is a criminal organization etc....”.
Slovakia is a NATO and EU member state. Earlier, part of communist Czechoslovakia, she was Moscow's ally during the Cold War. The night wolf leader, Alexander Zaldostanov, known as the surgeon, has often appeared alongside the president of Puti.
In fact, in 2011, Putin traveled with wolves to a motorcycle festival in Novorosiyask. In 2013, Putin awarded an honourary medal to Zaldostanov.
