Rome does not allow nongovernmental organisations or humanitarian associations to launch refugees at its ports. Newly-published figures, according to the VOA, show that new Italian policies have resulted in reducing the number of refugees arrived in Italy, while Spain has become the number one destination for immigrants seeking to enter the European Union territory.
Some of the demonstrators had painted their hands red to illustrate their accusations that the Italian government had hands stained with the blood of dead refugees. Protests relate to the offshore find of a ship destroyed by a Spanish humanitarian association in Libya's waters. The destroyed ship was the lifeless bodies of a woman and a child. Another woman was saved alive.
The associations accuse the Libyan Coast Guard of abandoning refugees. At the beginning of the week, Italy imposed five other European countries on receiving 450 rescue immigrants, as Rome refused to allow landing at Italian ports.
“Controversial and non-competitive government yields results from”, Interior Minister Matteo Salvin wrote triumphantly in Titter.
The figures released by Frontex show that 3,000 refugees used the naval corridor to Italy and Malta last month, or 87% less than June 2017.
