Macedonia announced name referendum Monday

On Monday, new members of the State Election Commission will be sworn in before the head of the Assembly.

The oath, which was scheduled for today, was postponed because of the agenda of Chief Parliamentary Xhaferi.

The latter is expected to also announce Monday the date for holding the referendum on the name agreement with Greece. As a possible date, it is not officially taught to be September 30th.

The referendum will be announced without concreteizing the question. In the absence of dialogue with VMRO-DPMNE, the question will be of kind: Are you for membership in NATO and the EU accepting the name agreement with Greece? The government estimates there is no need for a new meeting of leaders to overcome differences over referendum modalities. According to Deputy Prime Minister Radmila Sekerinska, the referendum question represents undeniable fact.

The goal is for citizens to really decide what is being questioned. Both the agreement with Greece and our membership in NATO and the EU have been put into question. Anyone who shares these two themes manipulates the opinion. No representative exists NATO and the EU, which says otherwise. Everyone says this is the best possible instrument for our process to succeed. If someone avoids this connection, it is not in reality”, Radmila Sekerinska, deputy prime minister, said.

Differences in the positions for amnesty reflected in differences in referendum modalities. Sekrinska estimates that possible reconstruction by the opposition will remain their responsibility.

Everything the opposition asked for except the amnesty we declared from the beginning that we refused, everything was accepted. This was done for reasons that there should be no alibi if the road to NATO and EU membership is blocked tomorrow, Radmila Sekerinska, deputy prime minister, said.

For this, Zaev stressed that he has the support of all parliamentary parties, which he called the Coalition for Macedonia's integration into NATO and the EU.
