A day after giving the recommendation for visa liberalisation, Kosovo institutions holders have expressed enthusiasm, attributing their merits to the process. But they are the same that many years ago had promised to happen liberalisation, while failing to meet the last criteria, writes Koha Ditore today. About three years [...]
Nearly three years were lost only by the demarcation agreement with Montenegro, this technical criterion, but that had become a political problem. When in May 2016, the European Commission recommended that Kosovo be removed from visas, provided that by the meeting of the European Parliament, it has met the remaining conditions of the government in Pristina it had nearly opened champagne.
President Hashim Thaci had even reduced the hour date when Kosovars could go visa-free to the Schengen area. That was just one of his many promises.
Updated governments, including Thaci's two mandates as prime minister, have shown indiscretion in statements on when visas will be removed or what the European Commission's recommendations report (KE) will be.
