A special unit within May's office has participated in talks on Brex in recent months and today's announcement only formalised the change, as far as the person now wants to assume responsibilities for the leadership of negotiations, Reuters agency reports.

“I will lead negotiations with the European Union, along with European Union Secretary for Oversight Dominic Raab”, has said May through a written statement to the Parliament.

The EU Overflow Department will continue to lead all preparations of the Government for Brexit”, the statement said further.

Earlier, negotiations on Britain's EU exit led David Davis. He resigned last month, in protest of the negotiation strategy for Brex presented by Prime Minister Theresa May.
