US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he received a very good “ ” from North Korea's leader Kim Jong assessing the American leader's efforts to improve relations between the two countries and implement a joint declaration signed by leaders at their Singapore Summit in June.
President Trump posted on Twitter a picture of the letter along with the English translation, saying that the contents of Korean leader's letter indicate that “are making major advances”, the Voice of America broadcasts.
I strongly believe that the strong will, sincere effort, and unique access from me and your Honor, Mr. President, aimed at a new future between North Korea and the United States, will surely be realised”, says Korean leader Kim Jong's letter.
The letter was released on the same day that the announcement was issued that North Korean officials failed to present themselves for a meeting with their American counterparts Thursday to negotiate the return of American troops who died during the Korean War in the early 1950s, in a new sign of rising tensions between the two countries.
American officials expected North Korean negotiators to appear for discussions in the demilitarised area of the Korean Peninsula after State Secretary Mike Pompeo thought he had reached an agreement on this meeting in last week's Phenan discussions about North Korea pledge to end its nuclear weapons programme.
